Attacks Darius Rusnak

16 cases of hate crime have been recorded by official sources in the first 9 months of 2014. However, only one case was reported in the media; incidentally, it was not included in this statistics, due to police miscategorising this incident as common crime.

In the evening of May 19, 2014, Darius Rusnak the head of the Public Relations Office of the President allowed himself to derogatory remarks and threats towards the 2 female visitors of the «Prezidentka» bar and grill, who spoke to each other in Hungarian. 2 young men who stood up for the women were beaten.

From 2016 to 2020 in Slovakia, according to the OSCE/ODIHR, 154 hate crimes were committed. Most offenses were committed against Roma, Muslims, refugees and Jews. Of these, 10 crimes were committed in 2016, 34 in 2017, 41 in 2018, 50 in 2019, and 20 in 2020, which was most likely due to strict quarantine restrictions. A significant part of the crimes in 2016-2019. amounted to physical attacks on people and their property. In 2020, these were mostly online hate crimes.
